ZhangJiaJie Travel Guide

ZhangJiaJie Travel Overview:

While Mother Nature pulled out a miracle millions of years ago by elevating the seabed to surface to mountains rising sheer and steep, inundating the low-lying basin with waters, scoring in-between a maze of criss-crossed streams and exhilarating waterfalls, and interspersing innumerable species of flora and fauna, she reserved the last pavilion stand for her uncanny workmanship as well, and that is Zhangjiajie city in the northwestern extremities of Hunan Province.
Yet this beautiful belle in the boudoir has rarely unveiled her charm until 1982, when the first National Forest Park status was designated by the government. Prior to that, it was a legendary xanadu barely depicted by the 4th-century poet Tao Yuanming in his Arcadia Records, and an unfortunate victim of damage humans inadvertently spared this wilderness of outlandish peaks and pillars and exotic animals and plants over centuries of land clearing, tree felling, poaching and polluting.
Nevertheless, the striking natural beauty and spectacular ecological enviroment have hardly been compromised, and its naturalness, mysteriousness and uniqueness have virtually been granted a World Heritage honor by the UNESCO in 1992, starting to earn a world-class reputation comparable to Yellow Stone National Park and Grand Canyon in the United States as one of the greatest natural wonders in the world.
Better still, the splendid culture of local ethnic groups, Tujia, Bai and Miao among others, goes a long way to complement the breathtaking natural scenery and create inerasable memories of a lifetime.
