Osaka Travel Overview:
While Tokyo may have taken the honor as the nation's capital and Yokohama may have gained ground in sheer size, there is no denying that Osaka packs quite a punch as the most vibrant metropolis pulsating in the heart of Japan with pushy energy and promises of a future the whole nation is embracing.
Dubbed the second city of Japan, Oasaka's geographical location anchoring the fertile alluvial plain crisscrossed by a maze of waterways at the mouth of Yodo River on Osaka Bay lends itself to a hub second-to-none for the nation's business actitivity, industrial development, technological innovations, and overland and overseas transportation.
As the byword for the praiseworthy Japanese entrepreneurship which has been taking the lead in creating global economic miracles and technological legends, Oasaka becomes the promised land for not only such Fortune Global 500 companies as the Itochu, Matsushita, Sanyo, Sumitomo, Sharp, and Takeda, but also the small businesses pursuing constructively competitive Japan base as well as worldwide opportunities.
Also befitting a virtually commercial-centric city where money matters eventually, Osaka is an extremely exciting and intimidatingly expansive city to experience, and one well worth visiting if you are looking for a slice of future-oriented cityscape, high-fashion shopping, live-wired entertainment, neon-lit night scene, hearty treat of gourmet food and all typical delights and eccentricity of a Japanese urban phenomenon.
Nevertheless a source of lengthy history which is most outrageously poignant in the reconstructed Osaka Castle, bubbling artistic energy and cultural heritage which are most immediately contagious at the entertaining manzai stand-up comedy acts, traditional bunraku puppet shows, and grand kabuki performances, and most noteworthily, the gregarious, if slightly gruffy, group of Osakans whose idiosyncratic mentality is most explicitly expressed in the distinct greeting Mo kari-makka (Are you making any money?) instead of konnichi-wa, Osaka would in any way make sure that you got your money's worth

Bounded by mountains on three sides and crisscrossed by a number of rivers and canals which empty into Osaka Bay in the west, Osaka, the City of Water in popular culture and one of the biggest and most bustling container ports in Japan, enjoys a temperate climate with strong seasonal variation, which is characterized by hot and humid summers when precipitation peaks during the period of late June and late July, cold and dry winters when it rarely snows and temperatures are known to dip below freezing only on occasion of nights in the the depth of midwinter, and pleasant shoulder seasons of the mild and warm spring and the sunny and cool autumn when temperatures fluctuate between 15-22 degree celsius, and it rains not too much except during the typhoon season of September and early October.
Similar to the rest of the country, summer in Osaka is uncomfortably hot and humid, making anyone who wears anything darker than white or blue or more than short sleeve shirts and shorts begin to sweat and feel sticky.
Also befitting its distinction as a commerce-centric and techno-funky international metropolis, indoors are mostly air-conditioned in Osaka, where a light jacket or even cardigan and the like would come in very handy.
While the cooling sea breezes and clean beaches are your ideal way to cool off, don't forget your swimsuit and sunscreen.
And a raincoat or umbrella surely is essential for your Osaka trip during the rainy season.
Although you can hardly be caught in one or two chilly days in the entire season of winter, it does get cold and you'll need to pack the proper woolens, fleeces and additional warm tops such as a scarf or gloves, for traveling around during this time of the year.
Only in the sense that the cherry blossoms in town burst into bloom at the end of March on through to the end of April, heralding the arrival hanami (cherry blossom) viewing crowds and the advent of incessant celebrations and holidays, can Osaka's spring deemed to be hot.
Other than that, jeans, long-sleeve shirts, jackets, plus light sweaters or other similar kinds of tops for the cooler mornings and evenings, are needed throughout the season.
This holds true to autumn, another colorful time of year when the cityscape takes on vivid shades of bright golden, orange and red of the changing leaves.
Before such pageant takes place, summer attire would suffice during the day. From the end of September, it gets cooler, and the difference between the daytime and nighttime temperarure becomes more apparent. Take care not to catch a cold.

2.Health & Safety
Generally, Osaka is remarkably safe and hassle-free for a city of its size;
Medical service throughout the city is excellent and reasonable English is speken in hospitals;
Crimes targeting travelers mainly consist of passport theft, pickpocketing, or vandalism;
Diseases concerning travelers would be nothing more serious than food poisoning or sunburn;
No inoculations are required for entering Japan from anywhere around the world;
Purchase a comprehensive travel insurance before your Osaka trip;
Check the weather conditions, especially earthquake/typhoon forecasts, prior your visit;
Avoid carrying original travel documents or valuables in back pockets while traveling around;
Streets around Shinsekai, Airin/Kamagasaki and Shin-Imamiya are best avoided after dark;
Report to local police and contact the nearest consulate immediately after your loss or theft;
Learn some basic Japanese phrases and/or have a Japanese-language dictionary handy;
Carry enough medication with you, as foreign prescriptions are rendered invalid in the country;
Earplugs are recommended,as the assault of noise pollution on the ears is overwhelming;
Tap water is safe to drink anywhere in the city, but bottled mineral water is more advisable.
3. Culture & Etiquette
Local culture:
Osaka has always been a merchant city whose residents are friendly and gregarious;
It's stereotyped in movies as the centre of the Yakuza, the notorious local gangster;
Osaka-ben, as the the local dialect is known, is very distinct, using Mo kari-makka (Are you making any money?) instead of konnichi-wa as greeting, okini instead of arigato to express gratitude, nanyanen instead of nande as the interrogative, hona sainara instead of ja mata for expressions of willingness to see a person again soon, and bochi-bochi insteaad of ma-ma meaning okay, so-so, etc.
Boasting more bridges than Venice, more coffee shops than Marseille, and more restaurants per capita than any large city in the world, Osaka remains one of the best places to eat, drink and party in Japan, evidenced by the expression "Eat till you drop in Osaka", and such nicknames as the City of Water, the Nation's Kitchen, and Venice of the East.
General etiquette:
Make sure your socks/stockings are in good condition,as your shoes will be removed often;
Tipping is not customarily a practice in Japan and is rarely accepted;
To reciprocate your gratitude with money, if any, put the bill in a small envelope;
Name cards exchange is mandatory upon meeting someone for the first time;
Despite the complexity of Japanese etiquette, foreign tourists are only expected to be able to practice some of the most basic and important rules in business, dining and gift-giving etiquette systems.
