Melbourne Travel Overview:
Capital of Victoria, the second smallest state in the country, and Australia's second largest city only after Sydney, the marvemous Melboune plays magic, not necesserilly the second fiddle, on the cultural front of the continent.
Dubbed the most European city in all of the Australian cities, Melbourne boasts the biggest Greek soceity outside Greece and the largest Italian community outside Italy, hence its art-conscious cultural life, breezy outdoor cafe scene, fantastic fine restaurants, elegant Victorian architecture, trendy little boutiques and galleries, and exquisite prassy parks and gardens.
There is also an eclectic mix of personality-driven neighborhoods of Chinese, Southeast Asian and Middle Eastern origins, further contrubuting to the incredibly diverse population of more than 100 different ethnic backgrounds, and distinguishing itself as one of the most vibrant cultural melting pots in Australia, if not in the world.
Basking in the self-conscious knowledge that they would always righteously and rightfully beat their northern bold and brassy cousins hands-down when it comes to literary life, performing arts, classic music and theater and mostly likely the spectator sports, as well as a certain dignity and refinement stemming from a "legitimate" birth, Melburnians virtually sink their teeth into enjoying "the" life to the ultimate with passion and celebrating the well-beings of the "Melburnian" life with gusto.
While the subtle charm of this eclectic city takes time to appreciate and grows on those willing to best reveal the best secrets of the city on foot, in-your-face sights and spectacles abound in Melbourne too, just don't forget to catch up on the event calendar of such pageants as the Australian F1 Grand Prix, Melbourne Cup horse race carnival, AFL Grand Finals, Australian Open Tennis Tournament, Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, Melbourne International Film Festival, Melbourne Internatioanl Arts Festival, Melbourne Fringe Festival, etc.
Absolute racial and religious tolorance, a veritable glut of historical and cultural heritage, comfort of living space and surrondings, affordable cost of living, plus the reasonably cool climate, no wonder Melbourn has ranked the "World's most livable city" twice and goes to great lengths to keep it that way for the years to come.

Partly due to its unfortunate reputation for having too schizophrenic four seasons in one day alone, Melbourne has been relatively a best kept secret year round.
Actually, all those unchecked assumptions outstrip the reality and Melbourne's climate is agreeably mild and hospitable even in winter months.
Despite the fact that Melbourne does feature four distinct seasons, the cool springs (Sep-Nov), warm to hot summers (Dec-Feb), mild autumns (Mar-May), and cold and damp winters (Jun-Aug), and it is highly liable to extremes, for example, it can easily be 40C one day and 15C the next during summer, and wind from the south brings frosts and fog during winter, even the relatively mild shoulder seasons would incur periods of hot weather, especially in March, April and November, you can still find all that manageable.
And the tricks to coping with the veritably potential sudden weather changes are to know the basic fact that, statistically, it rarely gets unbearably sweltering, chilly or soggy any time of the year, probably partly due to the multitude of parks and gardnes in the inner city and around the metropolitan area, and the air-conditioning respite provided in most shops and hotels or by the sea breezes of Port Phillip Bay, and practically of course, to be prepared for up to four seasons in one day with clothing to allow for warmer, wetter and cooler weather.
That said, you should always carry a sturdy weather proof jacket/coat just in case there is a sudden downpour during the day or the evening out tends to become unexpectedly cooler, especially in spring and autumn months when clear days alternate with cooler nights, and in summer, when it's prone to hot spells and thunderstorms.
And warm clothing like thick sweaters or jumpers, and heavy coats or jackets, and umbrellas are impervative during winter and ealy spring which last from June through to September,
Last but not the least, you may want to dress it up a bit for the more clubby nightclubs and upscale restaurants in town. As for the more formal conference sessions, business meetings, or reception dinners of some kind, just make sure the style of your clothing would be acceptable for the occasion, and in most cases, neat casual attire would be just fine.
