The golden tropical climate of Langkawi permits lightweight casual summer clothing, preferably of cotton or other natural fabric, all year round. Considering that you'll do quite a bit of walking, biking, hiking, beachcombing, swimming, and sunbathing, don't forget to pack a pair of comfortable flat shoes with soles that grip, sandals for beaches, swimsuits, sunglasses, a hat/cap, and lots of sunscreen.
Mosquito repellant and anti-allergy/gel must not be left behind, and a lightweight waterproof windbreaker would come useful if it happens to rain. Do properly cover up your legs, arms, shoulders while visiting places of worships, and do not go topless anywhere in Langkawi!

1. What to pack
Pack light, since Langkawi is a tax-free zone, so you can buy almost everything at a lot cheaper prices than the already cheap Malaysian standard. But you??d better get enough memory cards ready if you??re carrying a digital camera, since they are pretty expensive here.
2. Getting around
There is no public bus service in Langkawi, so taxi is probably the major way of getting around the island. But renting a car, a motorbike or even a bicycle and making a leisurely circuit of the island on your own is more fun.
To rent such vehicles, resort to the car renting booth in the ferry terminal building at Kuah Jetty, the local registered travel agents or the beach resorts.
Before you start your scenic drive, remember to have a full tank of fuel, as gas stations are few and far between on the island. Drive slowly, especially when passing through traditional Malay villages at night, and watch out for pedestrians, other vehicles and livestock like chicken, cow and even buffalo.
3. Safety and security
Being an island with an easy going lifestyles and laid-back atmosphere, safety and security seem to be the last thing you have to worry about.
However, petty criminals do happen from time to time, especially in the most frequented tourists destinations. Always keep a close eye on your valuables and belongings.
Emergency number:
999- Police, 991- Ambulance, 994- Fire Department.
4. More
Dress and behave appropriately, especially on the beach, in traditional rural areas, formal occasions, and solemn places of worships. Always bear in mind that when you??re in this largely Islamic community, it is wise to err on the more conservative side.
