Jeju Travel Guide

Jeju Travel Overview:

Although surrounded by the aquamarine waters on all sides since time immemorial and shrouded in heavenly clouds all the year round, Jeju Island, the largest island in South Korea and the scenic and mystical "Island of the Spirits," has long been known as the one of the premier getaway spots, holiday destinations and honemoon paradises in East Asia.
A sancturary of heavenly calm and surreal landscapes driftng on the Southwest Sea of the Korean Peninsula, 64km well south of the western side of the Land of Morning Calm, 490km east of the Oriental Pearl of Shanghai City, 1030km northeast of the capital of the beautiful land of Formosa, and 1580km west of the capital of the Empire of the Sun, Jujus Island is the closest thing to the legend of Horai this part of the world has ever had.
In the sense that this 73 km by 31 km enclave of volcanic island manages to wrap into one compact package spectacles of both the wired vibrancy of city and the wild beauty of nature despite the relative seclusion from the rest of the world, Jeju is to Seoul what Niagara Falls to New York, where natural wonders, like the Jongbang, Cheonjiyeon and Cheonjeyeon Waterfalls in the South Korean case, come at its most accessible and breathtaking, the purpose-built infrastructure, like themed museums and folk villages, parks and gardens, performances and exhibitions, hotels and restaurants are widely spread, and swift and convenient transfers back to the neon-lit hustle and bustle of a world you're familiar with are readily available.
Adding the dominant topographical features of the 1950-meter Mount Hallasan and the peculiar rock formations along the seashores, a strong cultural tint indicative of the mysterious and unique fusion of Pacific-Asian style, and a mild oceanic climate similar to that of Hawaii that's supportive of limited possibilities for leisure recreation and water-sports, including boting, golfing, hiking, horse-back riding, scuba-diving, swimming, windsurfing, etc, the South Korean version has somehow managed to enrich the monotony of its North American counterpart, which is also acknowledged by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage Site in June 2007.
