Hiroshima Travel Guide

Hiroshima Travel Overview:

A location of immense tragedy it may be, Hiroshima makes a triumphal comeback with intense vigor and zest.
On August 6, 1945, at at 8:15am, for the purposes of hastening the unconditional surrender of the Japanese imperialists, an atomic bomb was dropped and exploded over the center of Hiroshima, marking it the world's first ever victim of A-bomb in the history of humanity.
To the extent that the indiscriminate violence of the most destructive bombs the world has ever seen has resulted in the immediate mass death of about 200,000 civilians and the devastation of a beautiful city laced with rivers and strems, the most sheltered port on the Seto Inland Sea and the largest city in western Honshu, Hiroshima was almost entirely wiped off the map.
While it's said that a picture's worth a thousand words, the collaborative effort of horrific photographs and testimonies, lurid reports and novels, and apalling documentaries and films, of the ominously huge mushroom cloud, of fires broke out all over the city, of incalculable damage and destruction, of seared skin hanging from bodies, of sick people suffering from cancer, disfigurement, scars, and keloid skin tissue, of sudden death without any onward singns, would simply pale in describing what happened in reality on that day, nor will it suffice to estimate even a ten-thousandth of the terrible aftermath the blast survivors, known as hibakusha, are subjected to.
Despite the desolate cityscape of nothing but ashes as far as the eye can see and the prediction that nothing would grow here for 75 years at the time, and the fact that hatred still reigns in the hearts of some, the resilient people of Hiroshima decide not to engage themselves in accusations, blame, or weighing reasons and responsibilities of the decision to use the A-bomb against the unsuspecting innocent civilians, but to vehemently wield the power of passion for life and rebuild Hiroshima into a vibrant delta city once again.
Thankfully, Hiroshima has risen from the ashes, becoming a modern metropilis complete with outstanding urban infrastructure to accommodate the steady flow of international business executives in and out, and The City of Peace with a slew of living reminders of the tragedy and modern tourist attractions to draw pilgrims of peace from around the world.
And hopefully, this would be the last educational experience where the world learn the horrors of war for the last time.
